This Privacy Policy explains how the iOS app “MimiLoop” (hereinafter referred to as “the App”) collects, uses, and protects user information.

1. Information We Collect

The App does not require you to register an account or submit personal information. The following types of data are handled locally on your device:

  • Recording data: Audio files (m4a, wav) recorded by the user
  • Reference audio: Audio files (m4a, wav, mp3) imported by the user, or audio automatically generated within the app (TTS)
  • Speech recognition results (STT): Text data such as word segmentation and confidence levels generated by Apple’s Speech framework
  • In-app metadata: Task titles, text, tags, IPA, creation dates, playback settings, and starred status

The App does not collect any personally identifiable information, location data, or contact information.

2. How We Use Information

We use the collected data solely for the following purposes:

  1. To provide the core features of the app, such as recording, playback, and seeking for pronunciation practice
  2. To display speech recognition results and provide learning support features like seeking by word position
  3. To organize, play, and export recordings and reference audio files selected by the user within the app

The App does not transmit your data to external servers or use it for advertising purposes.

3. Data Storage and Protection

  • Recording data, speech recognition results, and other metadata are stored in the app’s sandboxed area on your device and protected using Apple’s NSFileProtectionComplete, which secures data while the device is locked.
  • Data eligible for iCloud backup may be included in Apple’s encrypted iCloud backups.
  • Deleting the App will remove all data stored locally on the device.
  • Temporary files created during audio export are deleted after the sharing process is completed.
  • The App uses cloud services for certain features. When you choose to “Support” the app, information such as the number of times and dates of your support actions is stored anonymously in CloudKit (iCloud), a service provided by Apple.
  • This information cannot be used by the developer to identify you personally. It may be restored if you reinstall the app while using the same Apple ID. If iCloud is disabled or you change your Apple ID, the records will not be carried over.

4. Sharing Information with Third Parties

The App does not automatically transmit, sell, or share user data with third parties.
If you share data using the system share sheet or export files to other services, that data will be handled according to the privacy policies and terms of the destination services.

5. External Services We Use

The App uses the following Apple-provided frameworks:

  • AVFoundation: For audio recording and playback
  • Speech: For speech recognition (processed locally on the device and not sent to Apple servers)
  • AVSpeechSynthesizer: For text-to-speech audio generation (reference audio feature, processed locally)
  • Core Data: For storing data locally within the app
  • CloudKit: For anonymous storage and synchronization of support history (using Apple’s servers)

No third-party services other than those listed above are used.

6. User Choices and Controls

  • You can delete recordings, reference audio, and speech recognition results at any time from within the app.
  • When using the recording or export features, you are responsible for obtaining necessary permissions if third-party content or voices are involved.
  • To prevent the App from being included in iCloud backups, you can adjust your device settings accordingly.

7. Use of Permissions

The App requires the following permissions:

  • Microphone (NSMicrophoneUsageDescription)
    • Used to record your voice.
  • Speech Recognition (NSSpeechRecognitionUsageDescription)
    • Used to transcribe recordings and reference audio and display word-level playback positions.
  • iCloud (CloudKit)
    • Used to store and synchronize anonymous support records when you choose to support the app.

If you deny any of these permissions, the corresponding features will not be available.

8. Disclaimer

  1. The speech recognition results and learning support features provided by the App are for reference only and are not guaranteed to be completely accurate.
  2. Recording, importing, and sharing operations are the responsibility of the user. Please obtain necessary permissions before using third-party content or voices.
  3. When sharing data with external services, please review the privacy policies and terms of use of those services.
  4. This Privacy Policy and disclaimer may be updated without notice due to changes in laws or app functionality. Updates will be posted on this page.
